yes theres road testing and theres driving like a dead shit, beyond the conditions and your personal limits

personally built up area in those conditions the driver needs to be ripped a new one

phil used to boast about driving 400hp 355s and 360s 'hard' around the streets of richmond when his workshop was there. (I imagine he did it to everything else that came in too)

I'll have to dig up his post about that one day. I was amazed he was stupid enough to admit it on a public forum

you can make of that what you will, but i know what i made of it.

I thought it was F40s/F50s, and more about "traction"/"wheelspin".

that was another time.

he once commented that after he serviced a car that he took it for a drive and drove it hard to make sure all was good. i might be wrong...but he might have been talking about my car at the time...but anyway, when asked what possible reason he could have for doing that, when there was nothing wrong with the car that required that to be done (no high speed miss.....or rattles or whatever)...he said he considers it essential and always does it.

I mean if someone said they have a miss at 7000rpm at full throttle I can understand him doing it....even though he'd be mad to....but  to consider that a normal testing procedure for all the cars he works on...that is unacceptable.

the whole traction comparison between the F40/F50 thing was a different discussion, but just as much of an eye opener.....since there was only one way he could know....and he's never owned either.

how dumb is this guy to say stuff like this on a forum?? still....very good for a laugh.

yep...they were probably doing exactly what phil says he does.

how long do you have to put your foot down in cars with the power of these things before you're doing warp speed in some back street?

all you need is your good luck to stop for a moment and BANG....you've crashed a customer car......like that bloke in the UK not that long ago. another mate of phil's too btw.

If you get your car back from the service, and find the clutch slips, and/or the abs only works on 3 wheels, and/or the engine pings, and/or you don't get full throttle, and/or the brakes judder, and/or the diff chatters, and/or anything else that can only be found when loaded.....

and your mechanic didn't tell you about, or even know about these things...

you should consider finding yourself a new mechanic.

wow, how wrong is that?

355's and 360 don't have 400 BHP, for a start

I never claimed I drove them "hard".

and I never claimed I tested them "hard" or otherwise around the Richmond streets. I did drive them there, I had to, but my road tests were conducted in suitable areas.

I do all my road testing to a level that the owners would.

Just the other day, I had to take a customer on a road test. he was VERY appreciative, and learned a lot, and knows that his car is looked after by someone that knows what is right and wrong with his car.

and what right do you have to do that? If someone drives their car like an idiot, you think that automatically gives you the right to too?

Tell us about your mate in the UK who was test driving a customers 348 at high speed on a dangerous road again.

It never makes sense. If there are issues, put it on a dyno.
