First drive in my new car today. Finally registered and all done.
Have wanted a GTB quattrovalvole for many years. My mum sent a photo of my student flat from around 1988, and there is the cutaway poster on the wall right above Elle Macpherson in her underwear.
Have had a few false starts looking at a number of cars over the years but got inspired recently by the black '85 that was for sale in Kew. Decided that car was not for me and worked out that I would struggle to find one in Aus but trolled the net to find one in the UK. A low mileage example that was pretty clean looking popped up. Apparently the other owner never drove it after 1990. Just went off for it's annual service ( including several cambelts over the last 1000 miles) and to get an MOT. Did the maths and .... (on the best day for the AUD vs GBP in 15 years - always a recipe for a budget blowout)
Having got a good quote for transport I bit the bullet and sent some $$, sight unseen, to some Ferrari salesman with an accent unlike mine, whom I had never met. Still it arrived as advertised
Customs, more $$, then could at least drive it away
for the most expensive vacuum clean I have ever had
Then it moved into my garage. Unregistered and unregisterable. Clean, no fluid leaks, with fans and windows that work and no sign of rust yet. Eventually got a PPI (post-purchase inspection), then VASSed, roadworthied, new tyres which leads us to today
Registered, just outside of King Lake. I needed to take her for a wee pootle about, just to scrub the releasing compound off the new tyres you understand. I thought it was a nice thing when I was planting the right foot in second. Having had it out to the red line in fourth today, I think I am beginning to understand. I think I should do it again though, just to be sure.
