The handbrake was badly out of adjustment. Correct procedure is to adjust the shoes before the cable.

in order to adjust the shoes, you do it through a hole in the rear disc.

The 355C has no handbrake normally, and the aftermarket disc drums fitted do not have the hole, so you have to take the caliper off and disc off to access the adjuster.. it takes only 2 minutes or so... once the disc/drum is off, the shoes are easily visible.

Plus, the build up of shoe dust ooozing out the recently serviced brakes is a bit of a givaway.

My point is, that a 355C is a specialist Ferrari, not just an ordinary Ferrari. And several little areas of that speciality were overlooked by the "ordinary" Ferrari service mechanic. I'm sure the same mech would service an ordinary 355 better than he did this one.

but ALL the bits a 355C has that normal 355's don't are special, meaning that extra knowledge is required to check and maintain them correctly.

The brakes are racing brakes... they need different maintenance than road brakes. There are no dust seas, the materials are less tolerant of dirt and grime. The heat managment is more important etc etc...

was it a ferrari mechanic who did it? i'm surprised anyone would miss the cracks. they don't just happen to 355ch cars. that's just shit.

otoh...if it was a porsche mechanic who did it, that's even more disgraceful, as the one who did the previous belt change specialises in track cars.

pretty poor i reckon. i wouldn't be happy....but then i get upset easily.

having said that, i'm surprised the owner couldn't feel it. whenever i cracked a disc in my old turbo, it was immediately evident. sadly it happened quite often.

of course in this case, the owner's not all that aware of what's going on around him, but i digress.
