Who Let The Dogs Out?
By Mel Campbell on April 13th, 2010 at 7:23 pm

‘Dog Street Siege’ began as a perfectly ordinary beat-up on the 12 April edition of A Current Affair. Two vicious beasts, Rocky and Tyson, were claimed to hold the terrified residents of Dan Street, Marsfield to ransom!

“How is it that these two are roaming the neighbourhood frightening locals, and the council isn’t stopping it?” tut-tutted Tracy Grimshaw.

But the real star of the story was resident Ray Graham, whose uncanny impression of Rocky and Tyson swiftly became a most LOLsome meme. Behold: Crazy Dog Man!

As The Enthusiast writes this, the meme has already moved to from its second stage – in which the footage was clipped out and widely posted on YouTube – to its third stage – in which the barking gets looped for about 30 seconds of extra insanity. But we haven’t yet reached the real sweet spot: dance remixes and song mashups. The Baha Men’s ‘Who Let The Dogs Out’ would seem to be an obvious choice for this purpose, as would anything by Snoop Dogg or perhaps Lil Bow Wow. Or – and this is a little more meta, so hold onto your mousepads – the Crazy Frog.

While we wait for the internets to deliver on the Crazy Dog Man Remix, those who just want to listen to grown men barking like dogs will have to content themselves with the surprising variety of such performances already online. Here are a few, handily rated out of ten for accuracy, gusto and general hilarity. (Crazy Dog Man is a ten, obviously.)

Barking dog man Ray Graham a Facebook, YouTube hit

A SYDNEY man's enthusiastic impression of a barking dog on a current affairs show has gone international with CNN reporting on the viral hit.

Ray Graham, 57, appeared on Channel Nine's A Current Affair on Monday where he spoke about a number of dogs which were terrorising his street in Marsfield, northwest Sydney.

He followed up his concerns with an impression of the dogs that has media blogs and news sites now referring to him as  "vicious dog man" and "crazy old man going nuts with a frightening dog impression".

CNN, covering the viral hit, played a recording of Graham to a number of dogs on TV. The dogs appeared scared and backed away from the sound.

One clip has been remixed to provide footage of Graham interspersed with the Baha Men song "Who let The Dogs Out?"

Facebook fan pages titled Barking Dog Man from A Current Affair and "Psycho dog man" have sprung up with thousands of people signing up.

Many have labelled it the funniest thing they have ever seen, one called for Graham to be made Australian Prime Minister while others simply said he was "barking mad."

Graham told ACA he was shocked at the reaction and said he had never made animal noises before and the noise came "out of nowhere."

"It was something I've never done before - it was casual, informal, off the bat," he said.

"It was good wasn't it, I just love the way it was done."

But media commentators have been just as intrigued by Graham's wife Kerry's reaction - during the clip she remains emotionless as her performed his dog noises.

"He was just so emotional and it just came out. He is a person who's emotional," she told A Current Affair.

She also said after 34 years of marriage she was used to his personality and nothing really surprised her anymore.
