I've been trying to install it as well and it's giving me some grief... mainly my lack of webbuilding knowledge though...

What I did was upload the installer to my ftp. Then visit that folder (went to www.celsydney.com/firestats-installer) then it directed me to download firestats from there and now I'm up to the point where it is asking me for database stuff, which is going over my head  :confused:

Do you know what I should do from here Ash?

I don't know the setup you have on your host - do you have mySQL available?

It's a bit more involved than the client-side (javascript) solutions, so for the most part unless you're getting thousands of visits a day you should probably just stick to the StatCounter and Google Analytics options.

I do have mySQL available through my host, just browsed around and I am able to create a new database through there. If I do that, would it be pretty forward to install?

Yeah, install is:

* create the database
* create/assign a user with full admin rights
* enter those details into FireStats db installation page

Implement is:

* create a new "site" in FS
* copy the generated code for that site
* paste the generated code in your header or footer php file
* ?????
* PROFIT!!!!

Excellent, thanks for that Ash, I'll se how far that'll get me :)

One last question, what should I enter for Tables prefix?

One last question, what should I enter for Tables prefix?

Using a prefix on tables is typically for those who are assigned one database by their hosting and are unable to create new databases, this is so you can have as many disparate software things using the database without the concern of conflicting table names.

So - it's unnecessary if it has it's own database, but I'd just use "fs_" or something for the sake of it - you never know when oneday you customise a script and call tables from multiple databases, this is when the prefix helps in this situation.

Hmmm, I've done all that and copied the code in the header, but after waiting overnight it shows as '0' views  :confused:

Ooooops - you're using straight HTML, in order for this to work you'll need to use PHP.

And yeah - ditch Motigo Webstats, I don't like the popups.

ah ok, I did  a quick search on changing html to php and found this link.

http://www.visitor-stats.com/articles/convert-html-website-php.php

I seriously don't know anything about it, but do you think this is a safe thing to do?

That will most likely work (if your hosting supports htaccess), I did it years ago on a corporate website, but I'd recommend just changing them to php files, it's unlikely you have too many millions of incoming links for it to be an issue, and you can always just make permanent redirects for any existing pages.
