cool, im sure if you can get say 10mb/s thats still quicker than the telstra mobile broadband sticks we sell...

i have noticed one thing lately, and thats my service is dropping a bit with data. i can have all bars of reception, but no data will load. i assume as telstra is getting more competetive, their service is getting overloaded? is that right?

That's what happened with Optus/Virgin last year.  FWIW in the last couple months it's come back pretty good, but for most of a year it was frustrating.

For most of this year Vodafone Internet reception was non existent.

I'm connecting up my home Internet here in Austria. Guaranteed 100mb/s (up to 150mb/s) + 117 tv channels for only 50.

They use fiberoptics over this way. Hopefully connected by the end of this week.

High speed porn FTW!!!! Lol
You can say I'm wrong, but my garage doesn't agree with that statement!!!

Sort of, more people sharing the pipe. A lot of issues are caused by the back haul link being down or down graded.
When you use your phone you will notice that when it's just being a phone, it will have the 3G symbol on the screen but when using it for data you will see H(depends on your phone) that shows it's transferring data. Sometimes if the data network is down or down graded, the phone still works as a phone but if you try to do anything that needs data, you won't see the H come up or receive data or it will be very slow.

Other issues are the size of the back hauls, these are being upgraded slowly, because everyone is waiting to see what NBN will bring.

That's 'cos they have lost a lot of customers.........

I got curious about this some time ago as mine is clearly pushing data around even when it just has a G, but then sometimes go all H and stuff.

So yeah, after some searching, a simplistic version of what I heard on the interwebs is that the H means it's doing multiple streams of stuff - so possibly up/downloading simultaneously, whereas G is only one-way data.

Hmmmm, yes and no.

OK, when it has 3G on the screen, it is still a two-way link that can carry a voice call and data but the data is very slow.

When it goes to H(or I call it Highspeed) it is high speed data and you will see an up/down arrow showing data transfer, if there is no activity, you will see the H but no arrows and after a period of no high speed data it should fall back into 3G.

Sometimes if the cell is broken or it has lost connection to the data node, the phone will stay in 3G mode and data will be very slow or not work at all, but voice calls can be made.

You will see G on yours, not 3G.

G = GSM / GPRS (2G)
H = HSPA (either HSDPA or HSPA 3.5G)
3G = well 3G (WCDMA)
