My 2 year old 3GS is suddenly started playing up.  The battery is flat for the third time this weekend.  I've turned off wireless, bluetooth, 3G and all alerts.  I'm not using the TomTom app any more. What else can I do?

If it's sudden I doubt it would be age, more like an app you've downloaded recently.

Have a look at the Push Notifications list in your Settings to see what could be draining the battery, or maybe turn of Notifications altogether to see if it is an app draining the battery.

When this happens at work we delete mail Config and set it up again and that fixes it. Having said that when the phones come to me they are roasting hot and the battery is lasting an hour

If you double click the home button it shows all apps that are open. Hold down one of them and a close button appears, close them all.

Thanks boys.  I've now done all you've suggested. I seemed to have a lot of apps running that I wasn't aware of...:o

Especially if it's something that uses the GPS.

In just the past few minutes, I've noticed how much cooler it's running.  I think I'm all fine.

It's on the 3, 3gs and 4, if you installed the iOS4 on it.

iOS5 should be available soon for download I think, looks pretty good:
