Well, got it installed today.

It was fun watching the power meter go backwards and then forwards again when a cloud went over.

So we will see what all the fuss is about.    :p

Hey mondi, would love to hear how you fair over time.

i did the sums and for my house it will take 11 years to repay itself. which if i factor in halestorms which will likely bugger the panels before that time, and reduced buyback rates dont make it viable for me.

if i could get it installed for say $2k i'd be in, but not at what it costs currently.

This one is the 2Kw system and will do about 1/3 of the households needs. I really need a 5Kw system but the cost would have been huge and taken a long time to pay off. System cost for the 2Kw was $5k plus a few extras for installation and the cost of a new meter.

Doing the sums it will take 5 years to pay off but that is not including the Feed in Tariffs. If they get off there arse and improve the feed in Tariffs then it will be a lot quicker to pay off and more people will go for it.

The other thing that gave me the shits was that this had to be installed by a registered mob to claim the RECs. If you do it yourself you can't claim, it was hard standing back watching something be installed that I could do myself. Oh well.

And the other thing that needs to be improved - if I want to expand the system, there is very little of the extra expense that can be claimed.

That would be a 1.5Kw system for that price. Depends on the panels but 8 panels sounds about right for 1.5Kw.

1.5Kws is the sweet spot, that is where you get the best value for money. Around $2.5K

My 2Kw system was $5k so that makes it another $2.5k for 500watts which is a little silly.
