Are you surprised?

Not even for a second. The thread was just an FYI for those who don't take too deep of an interest hence my price comparison was quite simplistic.

You can use gel pack batteries at just under $1000 per kw of storage.

Power wall 2 is 14kw for the $10.5k installed ($8400 supply only)

But of course only can realistically use 60% of that in regular cycles

Hey Scott, have you looked at the LG Chem RESU and Hybrid SMA manament system?
I've had quotes on a 3 phase 15kw system good life on the battery's still expensive though.

Sorry, I haven't looked at those; but the SMA management system is very good.

In all likelihood it is an introductory price from Tesla.

People seem to forget that you can't use 100% of the batteries capacity. If you emptied it and recharged it 100% on every cycle you would nuke it in no time.

What's the max you can discharge before you start shortening battery life?

It doesn't really work like that. You can set the management up to discharge to any depth you like; but it is always a compromise against battery life. Essentially the deeper the discharge, the shorter the battery life.
