So I just received a call from Tesla because I enquired about the power wall some time ago.

They told me that power wall 2 is now available at $10,500 installed,and works with my existing inverter.

14kw storage.  5kw peak output.

So doing the sums assuming 8kw in and out of the pack each day.   

8kw @ $0.33 = $2.64 I save each day
8kw @ $0.11 = $0.88 I lose in FIT
= $ 642 saved each year.

Not counting opportunity cost that's 15.5 years to pay back a battery that has a 10 year warranty.

Still not quite there on the common sense stakes, but a 50% reduction in price and they will be worthwhile.

That's quite a comprehensive table.  Although I think the gel batteries that 360c uses aren't one of the types being compared, which is a bit disappointing.

Are you surprised? I find it laughable that the Tesla power wall won't even charge their cars; but hell it sure does look pretty
At best it is going to run your house for a couple of hours at night during peak rates and you are paying more than necessary for it.

You can use gel pack batteries at just under $1000 per kw of storage. Not as sexy and they take up more room; but they are more suited to solar usage and you get significantly more bang for your buck. When set up correctly they will have a longer service life too.

I might add that the aim of a solar/battery system is to use all the power generated through either direct consumption of power generated or consumption of solar generated energy that is stored in the batteries. You don't want to send back energy to the grid and get paid a measly 8c per kw FIT only to end up buying it back at 25c a kw or whatever you pay in your circumstances.

Hey Scott, have you looked at the LG Chem RESU and Hybrid SMA manament system?
I've had quotes on a 3 phase 15kw system good life on the battery's still expensive though.
