Under the new system, users will be brought straight to their destination without having to use a search engine.

"Imagine bypassing Google because you knew you could go to `restaurants.sydney' or `bars.sydney' and find every restaurant and bar listed on those sites.

"You would imagine our reliance upon Google to walk through this labyrinth is diminished."

Pfft.

Don't they know you can already do this... Yellow Pages, White Pages, there's a million directory sites.  The point is search engines and aggregator websites organise the information better, because it's in their interests to continue getting the traffic, even if they're just pointing somewhere else.

Dorks.

The new tld rules have some merit
windows update will become update.microsoft as an example
playstations will all connect to .sony

countries and cities who are willing to pay the $180k will have definitive websites, its hard to be sure a lot of the time now if you are on a government site or a commercial site
tax.australia
parkland.wankers.adelaide

Also, anyone with one of these new tld's can be considered to not be low level spammers as the rules will be more like .com.au (from what I understand?) and the cost is huge.
Theres a risk that wont stay the same and someone will start reselling x.whatever to whoever pays them $1, but I would hope .whatever would be null routed if that were the case

I'm told it will take a few years for it to kick in, but it works like this -

You put your hand up for a domain say .realestate

Cost $175k or so
When all those also interested have paid up it moves to stage 2, all parties are asked to try to work together to come to some agrement, if you drop out here you lose 30% or whatever, in the end if the parties cant agree it goes to auction and the losing parties lose all their money, make sence ? yes and mainly no.

Anyway - anyone who gets their hands on say .realestate has that domain globally they can then sell off domains to otheres ie freds.realestate
realestate.realestate
etc so there's millions to be made.

It's yellow pages time again, this year they have dropped the cost of their ads because their book is almost halving in page size.  I'm looking at reducing my yellow pages spend as more people are using the net and google for searching.

Is sensis the best mob to spend $$$ on to get your web presence recognised in google searches and the like? -  this is all a mysterious art to me

I used to use Yellow Pages on line thats not bad, depends what sort of business you're in.

To be seen in Google, once again what sort of business is it?
