I use yellow/white pages quite a lot.

paper still beats screen for user friendly and jumping around.

Also, for advertising, I think books still better for random catches... your eye passes over so mnay things in a book that MIGHT be of interest, on the net, searches are almost too good.

Is sensis the best mob to spend $$$ on to get your web presence recognised in google searches and the like? -  this is all a mysterious art to me

How many searches lead you to Sensis?

on the back of that, I'll spend the $40k on a full page

$40k I'll get you a full page of Google, bitch.

It's yellow pages time again, this year they have dropped the cost of their ads because their book is almost halving in page size.  I'm looking at reducing my yellow pages spend as more people are using the net and google for searching.

We have decided to halve our sensis advertising budget this year after the stuff ups last year including directing customers to our smaller branch from online searches in spite of numerous emails and phone calls back and forth!!  At end of day, our surveys with new clients all point to 60% word of mouth, 25% yellow pages (hard copy) and a minority 15% online/sensis.  Although the online source of recommendation has increased from 8% the year before!

Recently set up a facebook site and thus far, quite a few checkins and traffic being directed that way - time will tell if this is going to be the best bang for advertising buck! Having said that, we are struggling to meet demand with workforce shortages etc. anyway..... :scratchchin:

Am meeting such SEO "eggsperts" next week who claim they can do a better job with page ranking etc.

Forgiveness is easier to achieve than permission!

Let us know how it goes.

I'm pretty sure I can provide 90% of the advice they'll give you right here for free, the only thing they'll go over and above what I would mention is "backlinks" - and guess what they are... Indian guys posting spam on as many forums/blogs as possible.

Anyhoo, my starter pack is still relevant:

Yellow Pages online is good, I use it all the time you cant look up plumbers in Sydney in Google, so depending on the business you're in Yellow Pages are worthwhile http://www.yellowpages.com.au/

Many SEO experts are a waste of money, they make a living making it up as they go and bullshitting people who can barely turn on their PC, not all of them mind you but many of them.
