Ok I'm a complete dunce when it comes to this stuff, looking for 32"-42" under $1k, the last time I bought a teevee was my 20" CRT ten years ago, I seldom watch telly but I'd like a decent screen for my PS3 - just googling for deals and the range is mental, no idea what I'm looking at.

Help? :?

Cool - what have you got available?  I think it'd be useful if I started by limiting the range of things I'm looking at to half a dozen items or less.

75% of it's use will be PS3 and movies, probably watch some F1 and stuff, the rest of the time streaming porn from the PC. :p

I bought a 46" 3D Sony LED tv with the PS3 bundle (GT5 included and 2x 3D glasses and a few other things).

Paid $2400 at Sony central.

the 40" is $1600 I think... a bit more than your budget but includes the PS3 pack... :)

I got the 63" 3D Samsung Plasma. LED is better, but it only goes up to 55". Yes, I have to show off with how big mine is

When it comes to overall picture quality:
LED is best
Plasma second
LCD last
You make something idiotproof, they'll make a better idiot.

Ok, this 42" is $769: http://www.visiondigital.com.au/42-inch-1080p-120hz-full-hd-lcd-tv-with-built-in-hd-tuner-vs42hdp

I can get this 32" for $425: http://www.sanyo.com.au/products/tvs-set-top-boxes/lcd-tvs/lcd32xr10f

I'd probably be best going for a decent LED though, this 40" is $999: http://www.harveynorman.com.au/product/1256969512140/samsung--full-high-definition-lcd-tv

Or 37" LED for $899: http://www.harveynorman.com.au/product/1256968408381/samsung--full-hd-led-tv

Those are pretty much the ones on my radar.  I think a few weeks ago Dodgy posted a 42" from JB HiFi for like $600 bucks, can't find it though.

I really don't need anything bigger than say 42" in my place, unless it's pizza.

will check prices at work tomorrow... leading into christmas im sure there will be some crazy prices and offers/bundles. you already have a ps3 so no need to worry about them. most sales people will try and sell $300-$1000 worth of monstor cables etc... they are they only way they make a profit. all you need is your standard ariel or just some bunny ears and a hdmi for your ps3/computer. i was looking at some tv sales the other week.... and they are selling at some rediculous prices. unfortunatly as a salesperson, its getting tougher and tougher... but for consumers its never been better.

what's your room like for glare/reflection.

I have big windows and plasma SUCKS as they only come with shiny screens.

I've got Samsung 40" LCD with satin/matt screen and it's SUPERB in all light conditions and great for fast moving sports etc despite what some people say, and I disagree with Andre about quality. I think the size over ~40" perhaps affects quality  :tilt:
