It's a bit like PC's they used to be expensive then they dropped in price like a stone as the cost of production plummeted, must be hard if you're a retailer.

Or 37" LED for $899: http://www.harveynorman.com.au/product/1256968408381/samsung--full-hd-led-tv

Hey - this one's gone up $80 bucks over the weekend.

I popped in to Hardly Normals yesterday arvo to see them in the flesh, there was this 37" one next to the 40" one and the 37" looked much better, however the profile/footprint was much fatter and looked a lot heavier.

Then went into JB HiFi and they had a 42" LCD which looked really good for about $670 - the store was closing in 5 mins or I would have bought it, so now I have time to do some more research.

Edit: lulz at HN managing to capture this search query. :p

$699 bucks 42" full HD, free freight (so don't have to deal with those pesky humans), and it's 100hz (a lot of the <$1k models are only 50hz) - that's about best bang-for-buck isn't it? - http://www.jbhifi.com.au/tv-lcd-led-plasma/soniq/42-inch-full-hd-lcd-100hz-tv-sku-58442/
