Hey - I just found this cool trick to view any youtube video at a higher resolution, simply put "&fmt=18" at the end of the URL. 

Check the different in quality between these clips - unfortunately I don't think you can embed them in "HD", but I'll look through the code later to see if it's possible:

If you upload a version that has high enough quality, it will automatically be available.

A lot of my old vids I only uploaded very small versions because I knew youtube would rape them anyhoo, but some of the later stuff I just uploaded DVD quality vids as couldn't be bothered making different versions - so it seems youtube keeps a copy of the original and at some stage in the future may even release DVD quality playback - who knows!
