23rd of November 1972 was the release date of the X1/9 - I'm not sure why they decided to celebrate it's 36th birthday, but it was an impressive turnout in Adelaide by the look of it.  I had no idea. :?

Some spiele about it (long beforehand):

Quote
Many of you may be aware that Fiat held back the release of the X1/9 to some three weeks after the '72 Turin Motor Show, as they felt to release the X1/9 at the same time as the more commercially important 126 & 132 models would allow an opportunity for them to be "upstaged", and have the "limelight gifted" to the X1/9 instead.

Thus, Fiat chose to hold the worldwide release on the 23 November 1972,along sections of the Picollo Maddonie (short circuit) of the Targa Florio course instead.

So, the point of the above, is: the 23 November this year falls on a Sunday, so there is no excuse not to celebrate the ACTUAL day of the launch of the X1/9. We can't do that every year can we!

It has been suggested via emails, forums and letters to motoring publications worldwide that ALL Fiat / X1/9 clubs organise something - anything - whether in the northern hemisphere that be a static display indoors due the time of year, or a driving event with a part static event in those areas enjoying milder weather. Regardless, this is an opportunity that should not be missed as it simply does not come around often enough.

So, to all X1/9 enthusiasts and car club members worldwide, please arrange or support X1/9 events around the world to commemorate the day of the X1/9 launch back in 1972.

(Posted on behalf of Dave Favelle, owner of one of the first 750 X1/9s delivered to Australia and X1/9 enthusiast).
