Aaaaanyhoo - good luck finding a "realistic" price on your terms - the folks I know (and know of) with a Countach aren't even looking to sell, but it sounds like buyers are lined up.

To get in line all you need is one more suitcase of cash than the next guy.

you might need to ask that question, but this time with a different angle. that is if you have decided not to pursue it any further.

but speaking for Mr. 512TR, he needs some assistance and advice, the exact same that some of you gents have been able to give me in the past.

they don't mean to be crude and flog you off like that (maybe 1 or 2 of them do ), but some research does go a long way. if you absolutely, definitely 100% certain you wern't able to find any answers to the questions you were looking for, then being that this is a FRIENDLY forum, openly admit that you have had difficulty trying to gain information about the market of these cars and what assistance you can seek in order to get one.

being that there aren't many in the country, and if one was to be for sale, it would be at an absolutely premium price (just like LP5000 in Melbourne who's asking $365k...which would buy you a 3 bedroom house with garage and a good size block in the suburbs of melbourne coincidentally).......and as someone stated above, there are people who are willing to line up to buy, its just the highest bidder at the end of the day will drive away with it.

so where to from here? importing it...is not a cheap option either.

i don't know what the reasonable price bracket is for you, but if you really want one, whether it be local, or imported (and remember, importing does require you to pay for the car, importing services, import taxes, conversion and complaince and other nonsense), realistically.........you would not be looking at any less than $200,000.

...and thats absolute minimum....which might get you a countach that requires some TLC.

fully restored, approx 20k on the clock.....its a beautiful example, but you gonna have to pay if you want it! and i do believe it was around $365,000 from the last time i heard......but at least its here, like new and ready to go.......no headaches, except the possible nagging from family and friends, and paranoia of leaving the car somewhere apart from your garage.

Coco...if you want to buy a Countach consider carefully.

1. You will need deep pockets to buy
2. You will need deeper pockets to maintain
3. They are terrible to drive
4. They are built like crap

I now have a testa and a countach. 
I will gladly drive the Testarossa daily. 
I would think twice before taking the Countach around the block.

I know the $365K Countach for sale. 
It is great..mine is not that far behind it in terms of its condition.

These cars are rare, tightly held  and will definietly become collectors items.

Why?

After being the owner of one  i have no idea.....Then again why would someone pay $1M for a Phase3 GT HO.

Treat the Countach as a piece of art and hang it on the wall. 
Nice to look at, terrible to drive.  Completely impractical
Gandini must have been high when he designed it...

It still draws a crowd today.
Even when parked in my driveway.


At $365K  this Countach is on the ball.

Even if you searched for the very few Countach's available on a world market, you would not get much change from $365K  if you were to import one and comply it.

Then you would have to take the gamble that it does not need any work done to it.

Common problems
Oil Leaks  and Electricals:- Factory Standard!
Fires Common!

A good Countach will sell in UK for around $100K Pounds...  Call it $415K Landed
An anniversary at bargain price of $60K Pounds Call it $250K Landed

US Prices during a financial crisis:-
Around US$130K  call it $330K Landed
US Anniversary prices around  US$110K  call it $280K Landed.

Then you have compliance costs, and if you want conversion costs LHD-RHD


Remember
what ever you pay for the car:-
Add $7000-$10000  for shipping, port costs, clearing fees, insurance
then add
10% duty on top of that figure
then add
10% GST on top of that figure
Then add
33% LCT over around $59000 on top of the previous figure

Then
Open your "lucky dip" when it gets here.
I have heard of people importing "plums" that turned out to be write offs and absolute crap cars.

I have heard the guys selling the Black Countach will take a crunch on the price.
Quite frankly what he is prepared to sell it for now, is an absolute bargain.

If you can park $300K and forget about it...then i think a Countach will turn out to be a good investment.
It will probably out perform property in the next few years.

I've driven all models of countach. So many of them are in need of some kind of attention, like shocks, tyres, wheel alignments, gear selection adjustment/wear, brakes, trim and control problems BUT once they are fettled and correct they are AMAZING!

All countach will out perfrom a Ferrari Boxer, for example. Countach handling is as near race car as you can get from a road car.

They are SO precise and SO responsive...... They do EXACTLY what the driver inputs... So be sure you input the correct instruction!

I'd have a countach in a flash, BUT NOT as my only supercar.

a 20-40 minute drive in a PROPERLY SORTED countach is a life changing experience. Any further and the ergonomics cancel it all out.

Terrible to drive....Yep..when compared to a camry

Most guys expect these cars to drive like a camry.  Then they are disappointed.  Their childhood dreams are shattered.

I agree with you...It's a totally different experience driving a Testa  or a Countach.

But its like Beer and Lemonade.


When you were a kid you loved lemonade, but wanted to taste beer..just because your dad drank it...and you wanted to be like your dad.
Then you finally tasted beer..and thought YUK..what's all the fuss about.

Now you love beer...especially at beer  oclock!

If someone bought a countach expecting it to drive like a camry then they have serious problems. It's a 70's supercar, if you want it to be easy don't buy it. Don't garage queen the countach, drive it like it is meant to be. If you're not willing to then pass it on to someone else! *end rant*
