Bottom of the Oil Barrel, What Gets The Worst Fuel Economy in the World?

When it comes to fuel economy, there are champs like the Toyota Poofter Car, and then there are chumps.

Along with being one of the fastest and most expensive cars on the road today, the $350,000 Lamborghini Murcielago is also the king of the gas guzzlers. Its 640 horsepower engine sucks down a gallon of gasoline for every 8 miles it travels in the city and 13 on the highway for a nice round EPA combined rating of 10 mpg.

The folks that figure Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE) standards are a little more lenient and say it gets 12.5 mpg, but it matters little. Even if Lamborghini could triple that figure tomorrow, it would still come up short of the new 39 mpg standard.

Owners of the car are probably very upset about that.

Hmmm, I thought the Ford GT was bad.

Mr Clarkson stated that the GT got 4mpg on the track when giving it a gut full, which worked out at about(can't remember the exact figure) 80 miles out of one tank.
Wonder what the LP640 would get if treated the same way???

Oh, and it gets a 6/10 for air pollution(not that it matters :p).

The Ford GT isn't too bad on the track.
We ran it with a few others at PI at the start of April - the thirstiest was the GTR! The Ford is pretty bad around town - I think I got about 120km to a tank when we were tootling it around for promo last year.

As for really impressive economy...
Snowy and I managed a very efficient 140L / 100km out of the R34 GTR at Targa Wrest Point earlier in the year.
We worked out we would have to stop and fill up mid-stage on some of the longer Targa runs!

Well, that blows the EPA's figures if the GT was getting 120km out of a tank around town.
That's about 75miles, with a 17.5gal tank, hmmmmm about 4.2mpg.

Wow, 140l/100km, that is impressive.

I drove the LP to Melbourne on Monday to drop it for service and I reckon I got better than 13mpg (US gallons of course).  I didn't check the actual mileage but I might on the way home.  The problem is that it gets better economy at 130km/h than it does at 100 (apparently :o)

The Gallardo GT3 uses almost exactly 0.5 l/km... or 50l per 100km at race pace.

The Ferrari 360 GT uses 0.44

The fuel we use costs $6/litre  :tilt:

120km out of a 75 litre tank around town, is all the kms done in stop rolling stop rolling no highway miles?
