**One more thing to note: at one point an icon popped up on the dashboard that I have never seen before and it was a yellow exclamation point with an unclosed circle around the exclamation point.... any advice is greatly appreciated!

That's the traction control light.

Is everyone else like me now convinced this post was a hoax from the beginning?

I usually give people the benefit of the doubt up front, but...

Yeah I checked him out on LP - seems legit, but get the feeling he's the kinda guy who fell into a pit of money through online ventures and went straight from a Galant to a Gallardo.

Sounds like a legit problem to me.

Similar thing happened to my R-Tronic R8 which has the same gearbox as an eGear Gallardo (pretty much).
The system dropped to neutral when the car was at lights and then refused to engage any gear. Audi Assist tried resetting the ECUs etc - but no joy.
Turned out it was a hydraulic pressure loss in the gearbox control unit (o-ring failure). It was a known fault that Audi traced to a manufacturing batch.

RB said his bro-in-law test drove the R8 and it was confused in what gear it was in, sat at the lights and etc. any recalls? or just case to case sort of thing?

Nah - no recall. It affects so few AUS market cars, they'll just deal with it if it happens.
It put my car off the road for a few weeks, but it was the first to be affected - so I'd hope they've got a process in place now.

Oh sorry - I wasn't clear.
This happened in January. The car was only 5,000km old, and Audi Centre Melbourne had never had an R8 in for service - let alone need this level of warranty work done. That's why it took so long.
