Lotus don't do a Canary yellow.  I believe S4s only came in a norfolk mustard. To confirm this the Vin plate will also have the colour codes for the car, so you can tell if its had a respray.

IMO - Owners manuals are only lost if a previous owner wants to lose it.

The 6 in the VIN is actually an 'S' which would make the car a 1995 build.  R-1994 / S - 1995 / T-1996.

An the 'A' represents RHD.

If you've read Andecorp's rants on the dilution of the S4s due to the US versions then it's a little confusing.

Of course!  Probably can't afford yet though so kinda moot.  My gunna days are still to come.

With the engine emission spec there's only 2 options, either a 1 or a 6.  With 1 being Europe (which might relate to the GT3 version - lower emissions - smaller engine.  All UK Esprits (S4 and S4s)  have a 6 - mine does.

Andecorp will know how many S4s were imported into Oz as from memory he bought two (new) - yellow and black.  If it's a PI then there'll be some signs of corrosion.

He already answered that in the other thread I quoted, 16 legit cars in Oz, but reckons there's a bunch of fakie-do's.  Anyone's guess how many have landed as personal imports, but a valid suspicion to say rather limited.
