Reading Just Cars magazine I saw that a yellow GT3 sold a few weeks ago at a Bonhams auction in Sydney. I doing research for interest in buying an Esprit, I totally missed this. Thought others may find it interesting.

Sold alongside the V8, the GT3 S was a model sold in Australia between 1997 and 1999, combining the mechanicals of the S4S with the updated GT3 interior features like the driver's side airbag, removable roof panel and a six-speaker CD system. Only five of these cars are believed to have been manufactured for Australia and with a list price of almost $170,000 it's hardly surprising few were sold here. This particular example is in very good cosmetic and mechanical condition, with 35,000 kms showing on the clock. The VIN indicates the car was built in 1997 but the compliance plate shows a date of February 1999. Currently owned by a Lotus collector, the car is a rare and sought after example of the ultimate four-cylinder Esprit model and is currently registered in the ACT until August 2011.

Sold for AU$44,850 inclusive of Buyer's Premium

That don't look like a GT3 to me.   :scratchchin:

Or was this the tarted up version for OZ???   :confused:


They are wrong as well, the GT3 did not have the S4s running gear but instead had the 2.0Lt engine.

I did see this (http://aussieexotics.com/forum/lotus/andecorps-lotus-esprit-s4s-photoshoot-march-2009-4030.20.html) post from 2009 about GT3S's from YSS and Andrecorp.
Andecorp mentions there is only one yellow GT3S that was Australian Delivered.  So this GT3S could have be YSS's  And Andre mentions why the GT3 does not look like the UK model, in that they had S4s rims etc put on them in Australia.

Apart from being made to look like an S4s, those cars had nothing in common with the S4s. They were just old unsaleble UK stock of the GT3 (bottom of the range Esprit) and Lotus Aust brought them in, slapped S4s wheel arches, wing and wheels on them and called them GT3S(peedmaster). The Smiths used to pull a lot of tricks like this when they had the Lotus importing rights.

I see indicators are incorrect (smash or was respray to yellow?).
Just seemed a nice price (depending on what the buyer's premium was) compared to others for sale and no knowing the history. Pity I had no idea of it until after sale in order to have checked it out.

Same Vin number. Within 3 months it almost doubled in price from when sold at auction, and it became two year newer!

Not the S4s mechanicals and the GT3 interior was not updated, it was the poverty pack interior! And the S4s had the removable roo, six speaker CD and a shitload more.

Australian buyers like highly specced cars, not the poverty packs so not many would be sold, but only 6 came as that was all that Lotus UK had left over of unsold stock of the GT3.

Could explain why they say it has the larger S4s 2.2 engine and not a 2.0 that the GT3's had
