Could be by now, those EPA letters are a pain but the trucks on the side of the roads were much much worse. Do they have defect stations still? this is going OT....

Every thread goes off topic at some point.

By defect stations do you mean like Breath test stations when they set up on the side of a road and pull cars in? If so then yes, but you learn to avoid those roads at certain days and certain times. Also the iphone app Trapster is excellent in helping to avoid defect stations.
You can say I'm wrong, but my garage doesn't agree with that statement!!!

Really? But the cats are downwind from the engine, the exhaust would have to be sucking in air from the outside for that to happen wouldn't it?

...the other was advice from Roberto (grimaldi)  who had   had one in his workshop the cat had broken up  and particles were sucked back into the engine  on start up ,  resulting in engine change or rebuild  cant remember which   its was some time ago...

............In the meantime though, the mechanic told me that excessive erosion of the Cat can cause particles to be sucked into the engine and cause serious engine damage/failure.......

yes, there is valve overlap, which causes reversion... it's common.

watch a high performance engine idling, with open throttle bodies/air box off etc.... you'll see just as much stuff coming UP out the carbies, as going back down into them... the same happens on the exhaust, only it's hard to see.

Hi Shoota,
One assumes that, after a year & half, you resolved the catalytic converter replacement. I have the same model/year and mine just went.

Have you any advice?
How did you resolve your dilemma?

Many thanks,    MS

Is that $6k for both catalytic converters or for one?

If that quote is for both then I found ones a little cheaper, if it is for one then I found them a lot cheaper.

Buy it from overseas and get anyone to install it. Unless you find a compatible one here for cheap.

Didn't the same thing happen with some early 430's??
Everything looks better in carbon fibre
