Maserati driver found after being abducted in Roxburgh Park

by: Aleks Devic, Mark Buttler

UPDATE 6.50am: THE driver of a Maserati who was abducted at gunpoint yesterday has been found uninjured at a property in the northern suburbs.

Police say he was found alone in the house at about 6pm.

A police spokeswoman said no one had been arrested or charged over the kidnapping.

"Investigations are ongoing," she said this morning.

Radio station 3AW reported the Maserati driver, a man in his 20s, was being uncooperative.

He was bundled into another car at gunpoint after his luxury vehicle was intercepted in an ambush on a busy road in Roxburgh Park yesterday afternoon.

A man who was travelling in the Maserati with the victim ran into a nearby service station shouting that the attackers had a gun.

The victim and his passenger had just pulled out of a Caltex service station on Somerton Rd, Roxburgh Park, when the attackers made their move.

Police said he was rammed by at least two other vehicles, one of which was described as a Holden Statesman, at about 1pm.

The Maserati’s driver was chased by two men, caught and thrown into the Statesman by two men.

His mate, who was aged in his 20s, ran for his life.

“The guy came into the service station and yelled 'shut the door, shut the door. Somebody’s got a gun’,” local man Rizwan said.

Witnesses said two shots were fired, but police denied this.

School children walked by as the black Quattroporte 4.2, valued at more than $200,000, was put on the back of a truck and driven away for forensic examination.

Its front left-hand panel was damaged.

Acting Chief Commissioner Ken Lay said he had been briefed on the incident, which is being investigated by the armed crime taskforce and local officers.

Somerton Rd is one of the busiest roads in the northern suburbs and cordoning off  the area resulted in heavy traffic delays.

A Victoria Police spokesman said he could not say whether the Santiago taskforce had been called into the case.

Santiago was formed in response to widespread crime involving families and gangs in the northern suburbs.

The years of violence have been marked by many kidnappings and shooting incidents.

Witnesses or anyone else with information can call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000
