* If the price does not contain the notation that it is "Drive Away No More to Pay", the price may not include additional costs, such as stamp duty and other government charges. Please confirm price and features with the seller of the vehicle.

New car price rules – what it means
By Neil McDonald Herald Sun 26 May 2009

Gone are the days of hidden costs... car dealers have to list all the costs of buying a new vehicle in their advertising. What do the new car price regulations mean for you as a buyer?

Most importantly, it means every car price you now see in advertising is a 'drive-away' price. And with the new Australian Competition and Consumer Commission regulations, prices will appear to rise as much as $4000 for popular family cars like the Ford Falcon or Holden Commodore, depending on the State you live, because dealers must now include the full on-road costs of a vehicle.

Car dealers have to list all the costs of buying a new vehicle in their advertising. There will no longer be ‘hidden costs’ – prices cannot be advertised as ‘plus on-road costs’, for example.

Advertising must include dealer preparation and delivery charges, as well as registration, stamp duty and third-party insurance fees.

Yeah, that's for NEW vehicles, not USED.

It applies to both, I'm sure.

Hmmmmmm, dunno about that, but if it does then there is a lot of internet car sale sites that are not complying to the rules!!!!

I was at a dealership today and they were making a huge song and dance about the "Drive away" prices of their cars which is the advertised price anyway.

Cant find anything that says it's law but I cant remember when anyone advertised a car without it being drive away, except the private ads.

ACCC requirement as per attached (see their web site)

Don't confuse the general disclaimer on Carsale/Carpoint for all advertisers on their site (private & dealers) with the obligations of LMCTs as to how pricing needs to be conveyed

Ok so as a result they only advertise the drive away price as there's no point putting in the lower price, just  confusing.
