Doesn't this just show how smart our population is??? When there has to be a law to say (the advertised price has to be the drive away price).

How does this make it any easier when you are looking at prices on carsales and then you have to work out the actual price difference between the dealer price and a private price. What a cock up of the system, they should have made dealers have to put BOTH the drive away price and the raw price so you can see how much it costs on road, and a simple way to compare both private and dealer cars at once.

I've said it before, i'll say it again, the Department of Fair Trading is obviously run by bloody pen pushers who have never worked for them selves in a real business, probably never buy their own cars as they get government company cars, and don't know anything about the real world.

Tell me if i'm wrong but my way seems easier on consumers than their stupid "double standards" bullshit.
You can say I'm wrong, but my garage doesn't agree with that statement!!!

The new pricing laws don't just apply to Car Yards.

Imagine if someone like me (an exhaust retailer) quoted prices on my website, but didn't include GST or Duty, and then just shipped stuff direct from OS to the buyer and lumped the extra costs onto them?  This is one of the reasons behind the new National laws for retail pricing...

Alot of the car yards include a net price in fine print, but why rely on the law to ensure that all car yards do this?  Isn't this something to blame on carsales or the merchant, rather than on the govt?

Just my 2c worth :)

Why don't people do propper investigations before buying a car? Seriously a car is usually your 2nd most valuable purchase in most peoples lives, if you don't do your homework then you deserve to get ripped off.

The laws are stupid, how many people buy from a car yard purely on the advertised price, even on new prices they can be flexible by a little bit.

When buying a car it is a given that you have to pay for gst, transfers, rego.... for christ sake the law might as well state to these idiots "you will have to pay for fuel after you purchase a car to keep it going"

So has anyone had a look at this one?

http://www.carsguide.com.au/site/search/vehicle-details/D_14893733/@N=4294962119++523+++4294962881&type=cars&searchType=1&vehicleType=1&pos=2&pr=D_14764356&nr=D_14062346

I know the black Gransport they have looks like the really rough one that was passed in at auction a few weeks back.

ok... here's my insight based on 23 years of experience...

the number of owners an exotic has, has an inverse effect to regular cars.

the more owners the better in my experience. Long term owners are much more likely to defer repairs and maintenance.

Perfect case in point... i have a glass 308 in right now... current owner 31 years, car is 33 years old.

It's rusted beyond belief in all sorts of places and I've been working on the car since february, when all it really came in for was an inspection and to fix the "stiff" bonnet (whch was almosr rusted shut).

Turned into a major service, full exhaust system overhaul, front end chassis rebuild, belly section rebuild.... basically 30 years of deferred work that he's finally happy to fix up.

So, each time an exotic changes hands, invariably they get some love and attention that is nothing but good for them.

for sure there are always exceptions, but do NOT buy an exotic based on number of owners being low.

I love all of this.... perfect advice
