Still searching for a good 308 GTB but toying with the idea of buying a Maserati 3200 GT for the missus and getting a Merak for my weekend toy.....for near the same outlay as a great 328.
The Merak, I know all about (or so I like to think) and I did a bit of research on the potential faults of the 3200 but what are 3200's they like to own? Are they horrendously expensive to fix? Are they at LEAST reasonably reliable? Boy have they depreciated! Surely they aren't that bad. My heart still says Ferrari but maybe two Maserati's a better bet....and a Merak is less cliched then a 308/328...more of a aficionado's choice.
I do like the look of this 3200

Get what you actually really yearn after, you'll just be disappointed otherwise in the longer run.

I know that the Ferrari 308 GTB is what I really want.....sometimes its just the desperation of trying to find the right car. Its just a matter of waiting. I know. Also, my partner is Japanese and she doesn't understand the notion of a classic car. She thinks I should only buy a new car, preferably Japanese (er no way) and she would be most pleased with a Nissan 370Z (absolutely not). She doesn't think the Ferrari is so hot but does like the 3200 (although she would prefer the Nissan). Wished she wasn't so hot, otherwise it would be easy to buy the Ferrari.

But good advice. Keep focussed on the end goal-Ferrari!

Thanks Markis-very concise advice-I take it that its a seriously expensive car to keep on the road-its funny how much more we pay for maintenance in Aust. When you read all the forums on Ferrari and Maserati ownership on the British websites, it doesn't sound all too bad.
That settles it then-no to the Maserati-because I don't love the car enough to warrant spending big bucks. If you love something, then the money doesn't matter ......too much.

For the price of the 3200 and a Merak you could buy a 360 Import off ebay...  $95k no bids, no reserve, around 13 hrs to go on the auction.

So you even have enough time left to go check it out. Its in Phil territory, but he's not around to check it out but he might know it. The add says its had a service here in Oz, by a Ferrari/Lambo specialist, doesnt say who with, so it might have been Phil. It doesnt say that it had belts done so it may need them.

Thought Id put it out there as it might interest someone else on here for the money but also for the fact that its actually here and can be looked at, unlike some others that have been advertised on ebay.

I would Imagine a 360 would keep your lady happy as the first of the Japanses looking Ferrari's.
