The Motul Legends of the Turbo Era returns to World Time Attack at Eastern Creek bringing back a bygone era in Australian motorsport when turbo cars ruled supreme.

This year we will see an even more impressive format with a lunchtime session on both days including an actual time attack session for these rare historical vehicles giving fans a chance to see them run in anger.

And this year’s field is also the most impressive to date, featuring the all-conquering Winfield GTR that so famously made a mockery of all comers in the early nineties and cemented itself into history in the hands of Mark Skaife and Jim Richards before being declared “unbeatable” and subsequently triggering a “rule change” that banned them from competing and formed the basis of the change from Group A to the V8 Supercar formula that runs today.

Joining the Winfield GTR will be the infamous GIO GTR that also forged its place in the history books with Mark Gibbs at the wheel. This car was also a force to be reckoned with and under the guidance of Bob Forbes finishing on the podium many times in the ATCC in the early nineties

Also from the Nissan camp and stepping back into the eighties is the flying Bluebird that was campaigned by George Fury. The Bluebird 910 become part of Australian motor sport history on September 29, 1984, when George Fury put his Nissan Bluebird Turbo (an imported version with a Nissan Z engine turbo motor and fabricated IRS) on pole position for the 1984 James Hardie 1000 touring car race with a time of 2:13.850.

This remains the fastest time by a closed sedan on the old 6.172 km Mount Panorama Circuit before the introduction of the Caltex Chase in 1987 increased the lap distance to 6.213 km

From the Toyota camp we can expect to see the Group C Peter Williamson Toyota Celica that so famously featured the first ever “incar” camera at Bathurst for channel Seven in the 1980s, a Group A Supra and a Group A Corrolla.

Mazda fans will not be disappointed either as there will be at least one genuine Group C RX7 with an angry Weber fed periphperal port engine from back in the day.

For the Mitsubishi fans we can expect to see at least on a legendary Group A Rally Evo 3 and a Group A Starion and don’t be surprised if there are some other more “unique” makes and models including some European brands ( like maybe a Sierra or two) that started to infiltrate the race scene back in the day.

For the rest of the day the cars will be displayed in all their glory in the specially designated area on the dummy grid area with many of the owners on hand to answer any questions you may have. This is a rare opportunity to have a good look at these cars in the flesh both on the track and off so make sure you stop by and check it out!

They got that incredible lap for Pole by plumbing the Co2 fire extinguisher into the front of the intercooler. When George went around Hell Corner he hit it and then did this amazing lap.
