Once I posted my PI application off to Canberra from the UK, the approval came through in less than a week.  You just need to tick all the boxes.  The import process costs plus shipping, Oz stamp duty and GST/on road costs came to around 20% of the purchase price of the car.

I would definitely do it again given the opportunity.  Well worth it.  Plus I get to drive a nice car every week back in Oz.

Try and source a dry weather driven car, although that may be hard to source with an AM.  The salt really is a car killer over there.
