Android has definitely caught up to iOS for phones, but I'm not so sure about tablets. I have both a Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 and an iPad 3, and the iPad was infinitely easier to use out of the box.

I had to spend a fair while hacking and tweaking the Galaxy Tab to make it usable - it was slow, laggy, and not particularly easy to use. Now it's running a new kernel with an overclock, a new version of the operating system with some tweaked applications, and it's great. Most people wouldn't bother doing all that though...
