Thought everyone might like to know about a new series over here exclusivley for E46 M3s and CSLs.
We pretty much came up with it during a night on the piss and it (quickly) grew...

The UK’s only race series for the BMW E46 M3 and CSL.

The BMW E46 M3 chassis was designed to be raced, a near perfect 50/50 weight distribution, an industry applauded engine with near perfect reliability, front engine, rear wheel drive, 350bhp - the car was built to race! The CSL Cup is a series developed purely for this model so that owners can race these cars in a competitive, cost effective series designed around maximising enjoyment, track time and competition.

Two classes are available; 'Standard' and 'Modified'. Equalisation measures will be in place to ensure the M3 is on equal footing with the CSL models. The standard class is designed to be a cost effective entry to racing the E46 M3/CSL, items such as suspension, wheels and brakes are control items so each car is identical thus maximising the input of the driver. The modified class allows far greater changes to the models. Again, equalisation between the CSL and the M3 will ensure a level playing field. All the classes will run on a control tyre, which is yet to be decided upon.

Race Calendar

After much negotiation the CSL Cup has now been confirmed as being a core series on the Dunlop Great and British Racing Festivals. Accepted as being one of the highest levels of national motorsport in the UK the Dunlop Great and British racing festivals offer the best possible racing in the UK, Radicals, Mini Championship, SportMaxx all based on full themed race weekends with each Sunday offering complete tin top racing. Dunlops extensive marketing and support provides a variety of benefits from the Dunlop Cafe (free refreshments for team members and supporters) to the complete tyre support package as offered to the BTCC. It is the first time a new series has been granted access to such a prestigious series. All of our races will be double headers with schedules to suit todays busy lives, we’re assured no 8am sign on and 5pm races! The full calendar is now finalised, details here:

Dunlop Control Tyres

To be expected by running on the Dunlop Great and British package we have elected to run on Dunlop control slicks. Tyre testing is scheduled for early February where we will select final sizes but a 235/250 split is anticipated. As soon as these have been finalised we will send out details on how to order your tyres direct from Dunlop.

Series Sponsors

We are actively speaking to several sponsors for series sponsorship. However we have secured some excellent backing from Tesco and their 99 Octane fuel is the CSL Cups recommended race fuel. Further announcements are expected soon.

KW Control Suspension

KW are supporting the series with complete suspension support. For the standard class the cars must run with the new CSL Cup KW race suspension. These kits, which have been exclusively designed for the series are full KW two race set ups with a usual retail price of over £2500 each. KW will be providing these at a discount for the registered drivers, modified class cars are allowed to run whatever suspension you require but of course KW can offer product for this class also. The best news is that KW will be attending each and every round with full technical support and advice for all teams and drivers regardless of class or suspension you chose to run, this means everyone has the same support as regards suspension set up – invaluable.

The CSL Cup has already generated significant press coverage and we are delighted to announce that the following publications are keen to run regular race reports, to aid this the series will be providing copyright free photography to all competitors for their own purposes:

Entries

The time has now come to get your entries registered, the registration fee is a very reasonable £250 which includes the series photography for the whole season. To register just download the form here and send it in.

The only thing left to arrange now is the final vehicle weights which we will finalise at the tyre test in early February, however as with any new series if you have any questions on the technical regulations just ask, either via the forum or contact us directly.

The series really has taken off already, we have extensive media support, at least 6 teams preparing cars and another 20 people all preparing their own cars, coupled with being on one of the best racing programs in the UK the CSL Cup looks perfectly set for a banner first year.
