Just adding my voice - this was suspicious to me (the way the email was written) and very similar to a car-purchase scam I came across when selling a car in France a few years back. Here is the text of the email and you'll see it's identical (apart from price) to s_13's example:

"Hello there
I will like to know if this number plates  is still available for sale, i have a keen interest in buying it.I will like to make an offer of $15,000.00 for the number plate so let me know if my offer is accepted or not, i will also arrange for the pick up after i have made the payments. Please get back to me on this ASAP Cheers Brendan"

Senders name is Brendan Gray, email is brendangray31@gmail.com

Suspicious name in any case, since "Brendan Gray" is a well-known internet domain scamming company!
