guys check out this link for leaked pics of the new GTR

http://www.worldcarfans.com/9071016.018/nissan-gt-r-official-photos-surface

im really liking it, the interior is not what you'd call exotic, but it is very playstation generation and cool for a Jap car

and the performance is going to be insane for the money

no confirmation yet whether it's coming to Aus

When you say "for the price" - they're expecting it to sticker at USD$80-100k, in car terms that translates to likely over $200k here.  As for the looks, well, it's a little bit 80's robotech - I would have loved it 10 years ago but I'm into more elegant designs nowadays.

Does it look much different from the standard Skyline?  As I've already seen a couple of those getting about a couple months ago:

From a side profile, it looks like the old XB Hardtop was an influence......

What have they done to the front of it!!!! The concept actually looked half decent. Now they have ruined it.

The GTR is a bespoke model, it is completely different to the Skyline

No longer is the GTR an upgrade of the existing skyline like say a 3 series to an M3

Good luck getting over that stigma.  They should have just called it something completely different.

Heh, I'm not saying bad things either way, but trust me when I say 5 years from now when you tell people you have a Nissan GTR people will say "oh, a Skyline."

Dumb idea, mega stupid for branding.

Think worldwide Ash.
Very few markets outside of Japan actually received Skyline models. Nissan are looking at the US as a key market for this car - a market that certainly never had Skylines in it's domestic lineup. The GT-R has always been the aspirational model for the range, so when it's the only one being sold, why bother pushing the Skyline brand when the GT-R is all that matters.

Think of it this way - as the 'Nissan GT-R' it will not need to carry the stigma of being the performance model in the otherwise boring range (ala WRX and Evo) and will be able to be marketed as a true Japanese supercar rather than a souped up taxi.

Once Australian availability has been confirmed, I'll put up a good argument to add one to the P1 fleet as I'd have one in a heartbeat!
