Prices seem to have held up quite well considering the drop in values of other discretionary goods and investments in recent times

Considering the quality of the plates this year, compared to last year & people watching their luxury item spending, it was quite a good result for the D.E.T.I. but not so good for current plate owners due to people going off auction prices 90% of the time when selling privately. I was surprised that plates like 556, 610, 8880 & 993-993 didn't go for alot more than what they did. Good buying for those who did! My 2 cents anyway

[ 993 993 ] was a bargain and will look fantastic on the right car, the rest I think are pretty well on the money at the moment, actually some of the random 5-digit numbers are higher $ than I'd expect.

I was after some 4 digit, but they all went about 200 bucks more than I wanted to spend.. (And I stayed to my limit which was even more annoying/surprising)...

At the start of the auction, the auctioneer said that a plate sold for in excess of $100,000 recently. Does any one know what plate this was?

2484 seen in port Adelaide on a silver merc

That didn't take long!

He must have screwed the new plate on in the car park before he drove home.

Yes, I'd tend to agree this. Though I do have a theory on these model specific plates. Surely these are likely to hit a ceiling price by where the plate value will cease to increase, that is where they exceed the "value balance" to the car they are attached. Of course some low digit plates such as 121 will always be popular even if it was once best placed on a Mazda Bubble car.
