My personal opinion is that whoever it was that purchased the rights for Qplates and vic plates and I think SA PLATES buggered the whole thing up by getting to greedy and releasing far too many numerical plates, so once my plates was privatised people stopped investing worried the same would happen in NSW......
I think it's ridiculous that you can get a 6 digit, any 6 digit in vic for $10k.....
Everything looks better in carbon fibre

Are you talking about PPQ, VicRoads, D.T.E.I. & NSW Road & Marine etc.? If so, they are all different.....As far as I know, PPQ is now privately owned. All other states are Government owned & run.

I was under the impression that ppq and vic plates were privately run

PPQ, yes. VicRoads I'm pretty sure is Government run.

VicRoads & NSW Tranport & Marine use Shannons to auction their plates off. SA DTEI use Evans & Clarke. PPQ, you can still buy plates over the counter at a price upon their discretion.

SA auction the most plates by far.....

Someone's popped up & updated their web site with some new plates for sale today :p

Well, not all "new" plates as such, but the web site has been updated a little with some plates he's had for sale for a while, and a few that mustn't of sold at Auction.

Didn't that guy with the 71 81 etc say he wasn't interested in selling a while back?

Not too sure if they are the same owners.

SA "81" was sold a few years back at one of Stewats Auctions for around $120k.....HUGE $$$$ for back then!! He was never interested in selling but circumstances changed.

SA "71" was available at the last auction, but failed to sell. The owner may of purchased 81, but I highly doubt it.

The owner of SA "31" had it for sale with Stewart for quite a while, but called me after it didn't sell to see if I had any buyers or wanted to purchase it myself. This number has sentimental value to me, but unfortunately, wrong time to be outlaying $100k+ on a number plate :p

Most people will say that they'll "never" sell their plates, but there is a strong possibility that a time will come where they may have no choice but to liquidate some of their liquid assets or their money will be better invested somewhere else. Never say never.... :)

31 for $110k sounds pretty good compared to all other sales in the past

IMO, there are only a couple of plates there that are well priced.

I'll keep the rest of my opinions re. asking prices etc. to myself. :p

Interested to hear if SA "25" sold post auction, or whether the owner withdrew from sale.

To give potential buyers an indication of what some of the plates currently for sale, sold for a few years ago;

81  $123 500 + 10% duty 2011 - Stewarts Auction
180  $32 500 + 10% duty 2011 - Stewarts Auction
775  $19 200                   2011 - D.T.E.I. Auction
779  $11 200                   2010 - D.T.E.I. Auction
936  $17 000                   2011 - D.T.E.I. Auction

Not too sure if Stewart charges a buyers premium.
