Hero up - Aussies get Batman licence plates

By Craig Duff

HERO plates for hero cars have long been an Aussie tradition but VicRoads has taken it a step further by joining Warner Bros to produce superhero registration plates.

Superman is already muscling his way into the lead in terms of early interest, but the plates also include Supergirl, Batman, Green Lantern, The Flash and Wonder Woman.

VicRoads custom plates manager Alan Morecroft says customers will be able to "hero up" their vehicles from November 30.

It's an Australian first, with other states likely to become superhero fans if Victoria makes money from it.

"We know that people love customising their cars to express their various passions and interests," Mr Morecroft said yesterday.

"The superhero plates are great value and start at just $195 for customers to upgrade a general issue plate with the design, or $395 to choose their own 3x3 (letter and number) combination as well.

"We've had a lot of early interest, particularly in Superman plates, but clearly there are a lot of fans out there for all these heroes."

Warner Bros marketing manager Ed Wright said recent superhero film releases had created a new generation of interest for these classic characters.

Why stop at superheroes, how many rangas would buy a ginger meggs plate? I'm guessing quite a few. Star Wars plates would probably still do ok as well.
