Just received my new Australian number plate to fit to my 1993 TVR Chimaera, which was recently imported from the UK.

Problem is the UK number plate is significantly larger (520mm x 111mm) and the Australian slim plate (   371mm x 100mm). Alas the mounting holes on the car are approx 500mm apart, making it near impossible to fit the new plates - I could drill new holes for the rear plate, but then I would have to try and hide the original ones - but that sounds rather amateurish and potentially disastrous.  As for the front plates, the mounts are behind the grill and cannot be moved, so I can't drill new holes - so my only choice is to use the existing ones.

I could fashion a mounting bar, but that would look plain ugly, so any ideas?

get a panel beater to make up a plastic plate the same length as the UK one, and get a sticker guy to print a sticker the same as the AUS plate, stick sticker to plastic and apply to car.

Ah yes, the ol' UK plates are just humungo.  Lucky Lotus put an attaching bar to cater for just this.

You're going to have to look at other Au imported TVRs to see how they got around the problem.
