Or, if it attracted no bids, wait and ring TSA after the auction to try to get it cheaper.  I'm guessing they couldn't sell to you then because it wouldn't be an open race.  So go with plan A.

After the last public auction Transport SA were happy to negotiated sale of passed in plates AFTER the auction.
They were all subsequently sold.

So history shows they will negotiate after it is passed in at auction.

Given the family connection I wouldn't risk it and would place a bid.

Well done to the genius who thought of this!

I assume they are flooding the market with 5 & 6 Digit plates which they have a massive supply of, and it won't upset anyone too much.

The floor has now been set at $3,500

Early investors have got the better plates so they will always attract a premium .

Fair enough. Doesn't happen here in Melbourne AFAIK.

I have a dilemma.
My father's old plate is in this batch. He died in 1979 when I was 8.
I have wanted this plate for years.
If no one bids and it fails to sell at auction, what happens?
Can a price be negotiated with DPTI or is that it?
Is $3500 too much to pay for a 6 digit?
I guess I'm unlikely to ever try and sell it but I'd prefer not to be overpaying if possible.
I'd love some advice from people who know what they're doing in this game.
Thanks
JBO

sorry to hear of your loss mate

Good luck with it

It's worse in Melbourne I think.
You can choose your 6 digit plate and they make it look like a heritage...
Please correct me if I'm wrong.
And let's not start the whole bicentennial plate argument...

Have you requested it from TSA before?  Sometimes when I've done this they put it in the auction.  I got some double triples this way.

There is a random 6-digit plate that I am after at the moment.
By contacting TSA do you mean Ezyplates or is this something separate? (couldn't find TSA on google)
There is also a 4-digit digit I am looking for, what kind of price do you think the government would be asking of a 4-digit if they're asking $3500 for a 6-digit, around the 8-10k mark?
