Not much happens in Adelaide, so a new superjumbo arriving is big news.  The A380 isn't in any airline's regular Adelaide schedule, but we'll have one here today for half an hour.

The way the wind is blowing today, it will most likely be landing on runway 05 - from the sea - rather than the more usual direction R23.  This means the best viewing of the landing will be Tapleys Hill Road or Glenelg North but, unless the wind turns, the best viewing of the take off will be the Netley end.

I'm having trouble convincing my 11 yo that it is worth seeing - to her it is just another plane.

Well, from the outside, it IS!

She'd have to experience inside to appreciate it's size and engineering.

I don't know the dimensions but it sounds like it will dwarf little old Adelaide - I remember a few years ago someone important like the Queen or someone (?) came to town and it was on the biggest plane I've ever seen - I was working on the 11th floor of a building on North Tce which looks right across the flight path over North Adelaide and even from there I could tell it was a lot bigger than anything else I'd seen traversing the sky.

I was worth a look. Apart from the double decker nature of the fuselage though, it didn't look that much bigger than a 747 to me.

How did it go landing, did it take up most of the run way to pull up???

I thought this thing was limited to where it could land?

No, didn't need much runway - mind you, I'm guessing the thing wasn't full.   Pretty quiet on take off too - way quieter than a 747.

I know it doesn't matter, but it isn't really a looker, is it?

No, it's not. That last photo of yours is not really that flattering.
