Ive pretty much settled on a Cannon SX20is if I can still get one. I was waiting on the release of the SX30is but the reviews are saying that the extra zoom has effected the picture quality compared to the SX20.

I could buy a DSLR but Im very happy with the quality of pics and HD video from the SX20 and I dont need to change lenses to use a long range zoom. Im not looking to compete with the quality pics of the guys on here, just take some decent point and shoot photos, so these cameras are perfect for me.

I also like that the SX20 uses AA's in case i want to use it and its not charged.

sx30is has been out for a few weeks now. any massive zoom is going to comprimise the quality. look at the best lenses in the world, all fixed focal length or very little zoom.
if they were that good there would only be one lens on the market.

ive played with the sx30 a bit and it seems pretty good. i havnt seen test images against the sx20..... BUT if you were going to get an 'older model' get the sx1is, its much better than the sx20is

Thanks for that, I just read some user reviews on the sx1is and its the first camera of that type that probably had even better reviews than the sx20is ....

not today but last weekend I bought a digidesign eleven rack audio interface and guitar preamp

http://www.avid.com/US/products/Eleven-Rack

Integrates at a low level with pro tools which I am not a fan of generally but am left with little choice as its the industry standard
