One reason franchisees grow unhappy is they realize that if they had been braver, they would have their own business rather than their own franchise agreement. But it is easy to be brave afterwards.

McDonalds has made a lot of franchisees multi-millionaires....
McDonald franchisees almost never fail.

I know 4 owners personally, ranging from one that opened his store last year at the age of 26 (after being suggested to McDonalds Australia by another owner to become a franchisee), to someone who has owned all 3 stores in town here for as long as I can remember.

On the other hand, there are some I would buy, and some I would just rather do on my own. I guess it would differ industry to industry.

Wise old Pa also knows the guy in Adelaide who started the ink filling franchise - he made squillions too.

If it's the same guy I'm thinking of then a few of us have met him...

In a way - The old man is the Rubber Man.  The company has been in the family since before the second world war, but sadly was sold off to multi national conglomerate a couple of weeks back.  So as of the 01st Aug the old man is now retired (73 yo).
