So I flew into Perth tonight, got in a cab and asked the taxi driver for a good steakhouse. He suggested I go to any pub..sigh.. anyway, got to the hotel and the concierge proceeded to tell me of the various places i could try...i said "i want a place for good steak and wine, not just any place that sells steak!". So they recomended Victoria Station at Burswood Casino which I'm going to in a few mins.

We have a number of members from various states. So, how about we list down some places in our location for some good tucker and good wine?

Good idea to get one reference place for quality food around Oz - once we get a decent collaboration of venues listed I'll put all the suggestions at the top of the thread, and make it a sticky if it seems worthwhile.

Been nearly a decade since I was in Perth, and I was too poor for fine dining then, but I'll always remember Fibber McGees in Leederville as the place that "introduced" me to a decent steak.

Hit n miss - always good value, but some places are sorta ok and some awesome.  I'd go there rather than the casino restaurant if for ambience alone - but then I *love* Irish pubs.

Not a big steak eater myself so cant recommend many good places.

However if you want something else (italian....) then say the word and I will list the places to go too.

Just list anywhere you think is good - as I said I'll compile the recommendations into the original post later on.

For Japanese, I can fully recommend the Rocks Teppanyaki on the corner of Cumberland and Essex Streets.  Every year we take our staff on a harbour cruise.  I stay at the Shangri La Hotel and go to this restaurant which is next door.  Absolutely fantastic food.

Cafe Sydney (Sydney CBD). Not cheap, slightly clunky service, but great food and fantastic views.  http://www.cafesydney.com.au/

Grossi Florentino (Melbourne CBD). Also not cheap, but the best steak and service I've had in a long time. Its the sort of place that has 6pm and 8pm sittings in The Grill, but we never felt like herded cattle. http://www.grossiflorentino.com/

I'll see if I can think of other places around Sydney, but I have to admit I'm more likely to choose a place based on location and view these days, but bbq my own steak out on the deck if I want a nice slab of grilled animal.
