I'm just left wondering - are we currently in a new age of Pyramid?  Are historians centuries/millenia from now going to be looking at Dubai and the crazy shit going on there as a small but meaningful tick on the calendar of civilisation?

That it is.  Imagine being the crane driver.  It'd take you an hour or two to walk up those stairs I reckon.

I read somewhere that they are planning on one at 1600m? or there abouts from memory.........

I think it was going to be called the mile tower or something????  Perhaps somebone has a better memoery than me or a link to the article.

This one rocks my boat.
Apart from having constantly changing views, the top 10 floors have their own car space on the level they are on.

lol, that's just a waste of time and space... Imagine the size of the lift required and the time it would take for cars to go up/down the tower.  Then, if anyone else was using the car lift (surely there wouldn't be one car lift per apartment due to space restrictions), you'd have to wait ages for them to finish.  Much easier to have a car park where you actually use cars - on or near the ground!

Who says it's a lift?  Maybe there's a road that spirals up and down it that you have to drive... :tilt:

My mate is working on this project at the consulting engeering firm responsible for the Burj.  Due to the phenomenal loads in the columns, they're using high-strength concrete and reinforcement which is so state-of-the-art that it supersedes all existing industry standards. Text books and standards will have to be rewritten to deal with these type of mega-towers.
