I think you are referring to the salary sacrificing arrangements only applicable to those working in public hospitals as they are public benevolent institutions! A % of their salary (?25%) can be salary sacrificed towards a specific list of expenditures including mortgages! I may be wrong in this but I think that the same salary sacrificing arrangement also applies to others working for other public benevolent institutions viz church run organizations etc! This "generous" arrangement certainly does not apply to ALL health care professionals especially those in private practice!

It is definitely private as well. My wife is a CN in private hospital and gets the benefits.

private hospital sure, but is it a not for profit hospital?

The ATO is clear cut about mortgage salary sacrificing

Lots of potential reasons: One can be due to reflux. Another might be due to some sort of plaque/scale build up. Possibly infection? Possibly if your mouth is dry after brushing - which can let the odours come through more easily.... There may also be other medical reasons for this....

You know I find some of the morons we see really funny. They don't complain about paying a couple of hundred for tickets to a show or the footy or whatever. They pay for their Mercs/Beamers etc to be serviced, with little complaint. They pay for their hairdressers and other services without a whine. They or their husbands charge out themselves lots of dollars per hour for their services, but when it comes to paying for health care - well they whine, whinge and complain. We had a client recently complaining that their husbands filling was more expensive than hers. Duh. Ok stupid, are all fillings the same??? To me that is like saying my husbands Merc is more expensive than my Yaris. Oh no. Heaven forbid.

I absolutely could not agree any more. This is EXACTLY my logic and I always find myself completely dumbfounded when people don't understand the way that I see it.

I currently have Invisalign which is costing me around $6k. A lot of people act like I've gone mad spending that much. I tell them, it's my smile which is seen every single day. Every person I speak to sees my teeth so I may as well make it count. $6k in the grand scheme of things is very minimal.

Oh well I know I'm comfortable with my logic and living very happily with it.

problem with diagnosis is that it's not a true science, it's more of a combination of art and science.  You need to interpret a number of signs that you pick up on and symptoms that the patient expresses to you ( and sometimes they can mislead you in the way they describe things) and then paint a picture from this that you hope is clear enough to be able to choose a treatment modality that is appropriate.  Different practitioners may choose different treatment paths, often the end result is the same.  Almost always the intent is the same -  to do good, not harm.

And trust me, specialists do get it wrong as well.

End of the day, we are all humans and you'd be hard pressed to show me someone who gets it right in their jobs and their life ALL the time.

Yep, pretty accurate in the grand scheme of things
