I would guess the brand continues with imported product. Dealers likely to be fine in that scenario and product may well be cheaper to buy for the dealer. Price to consumer would be set by the market and competitors as always.

I will miss Ford - I thought they made a few good cars in recent times.
I won't miss Holden - the last desirable car they made to my mind was the XU-1 !!! And the bogan image is terrible (worse than Ford).
Toyota will survive the longest as they're in a very strong financial position globally.
Having said that...if at some point the business case doesn't add up they will pull out locally too I am sure.

When all are gone, import tarrifs go....what other gouge will the government place on cars to replace it?

As an aside...a relative of mine worked for Simpson locally (made washing machines and dryers) He worked there 33 years in a variety of roles and always tried to upskill. They closed down in 2008 putting 600 people out of work, and the impacts were felt on many other businesses suppling and engaging with them. Did they receive ANY government assistance? NOPE.

Not sure it's because of this; but good, I'm looking at buying today.

Ford will be far more profitable as a fully imported brand anyway. The rest of their range is stellar, if anything the declining reputation of the Falcon was holding them back. It's going to be a tough (and pointless) four years for Ford as they still have to sell the Falcon and introduce the refreshed model range with the impending closure looming in the buyer's mind.

If it wasn't for the fact that the government gave them a $34m assistance package in 2012 to keep local manufacturing open until 2016 I bet they would have shut up shop sooner.

End of an icon that's for sure.

However dealers will be fine, I work at one of them and can tell you first hand that Falcon sales have been very low, but we have picked up in other models.

Ranger is going awesome, and the all new Kuga will be a good seller aswell.
