I would suspect this is dropping out as you say due to your browser locking up because your computer is too slow to process the javascript google maps needs to function
this could be for a whole heap of reasons
computer too slow
virus/malware scanners over analysing javascript
additional browser plugins
the only other reason I can think of is if you are using so called 3g broadband, some connection types can cause the vpn tunnel set up inside the isp's network to collapse
Certain online games used to cause dramas around this by altering packet headers to improve latency, its possible google is doing something similar

how are you going with the tech terms dodger?

You lost me at "I would suspect"
I'm using Telstra broadband and I think your vpn thingy is the problem.

I actually have to reset the modem when it happens, unplug then plug back in.

Think it might be the firewall on the router.

I basically live in Sydney city 3 or 4 nights a week and the high density is what I like about it
I can see why people wouldnt, but I enjoy seeing so many happy people out eating and socialising at 11pm on a monday night
In chinatown, everything is open and packed out, doesnt matter if its good friday even

Of course if you have a dog and 2.x children etc. then its not for you, we have penrith/narre warren/elizabeth for you

Tea House on Burke - ex Flower Drum chef......great food.
