hey guys,
just about to fly to London for some business and was having a conversation with this chic.

how many of you guys (well off/rich/paid individuals) can justify paying ridiculous amounts for flying business class?

And if so, what is the justification?
do you think that, because you're blessed with good income, you can afford to?
because you dont want to fly cattle?
enjoy the business class experience?

I've been to london 4 times on business and once to paris

Every time I was entitled to company funded business class tickets

Every time I declined

Even when a billion dollar company is paying I can't justify that my comfort is worth an additional $200 an hour

I've had free upgrades and they are fun, but I would never pay unless I had run out of things to spend money on

Having done it both ways to numerous places around the globe, it's pretty simple. There is a huge difference to how I feel when I arrive and although I hate the ripoff price differential, I will pay it. I'm 6'2" and get very uncomfortable after a couple of hours in cattle class. No way can I sleep.

Did they pay you the difference? If not ffs why put up with the discomfort?

theres always an option. lol.

its justifying the fact that you would wanna spend your own money to fly business paying 7000$! lol.

i was speaking to a few different people about this, someone who makes ALOT of money and someone who is very successful running his own successful restaurant business.
the latter, says he cannot justify spending money flying business class he would rather keep it and get an interest.

the first guy, who makes alot of money working in consulting, says it important to his business to maintain that status and so flies business almost exclusively.
im in consulting, i dont find the need to fly business exclusively.

i wanted to know how many of the guys that are successful here and drive ferraris and lambo's would consider themselves as , always flying business

futurism, you're like my sister.  In a prior senior position with Tower Trust and now AGL she refused business class tickets.  Me, on the other hand, I pay business out of my own pocket.

People justify things in different ways.  All one needs to do is stop a pack a day cigarette habit and they are not far from a business class ticket to europe.  How does one justify a heavy smoking or drinking or gambling habit?

It's not about the "experience" it's about avoiding the line ups, the lack of leg room ( my knees hurt badly on long haul economy), the sleeping position, avoiding sitting at the gate, transit stops are easier because of the lounges and as 916senna says -  you arrive better.

If you couldnt afford business class -  why would you?

Maybe its a relative comfort thing, if Futursim is a short thin build (he does drive a lotus) he may be well comfortable enough in economy and cant see the benefit that the usual fat bastard business man sees :)
