by definition, it's a sport.

By what definition?

Is taking a shower a sport?
Walking the dog?
Sitting on the couch?

It's an activity.
Or, if you like, it's a sport for people who can't play real sports.

"an activity involving physical exertion and skill in which an individual or team competes against another or others for entertainment"

Physical exertion I will certainly grant you.
But the key word is entertainment. Although I would also argue skill...

Also by that definition, how is darts a sport? Or shooting?

BTW I love cycling, and I ride everywhere I can. For Christmas, I got a new bike helmet.
But, I just don't consider it a sport.

By definition, physical exertion AND skill.

My 5 year old niece can ride a bike, but I'm pretty sure she can't drive an F1 car.

Hear hear.

re the "is it a sport" argument, if you put the Tour de France winners bike in front of me, I'll get on it, ride it round the block, to the shops to get a paper, whatever. I may even do a wheelie.
But I can't ride it nearly as fast as he can because he is a far superior athlete.

If you put Vettel's F1 car in front of me, I wouldn't get it to the end of the driveway. Because it takes skill to drive it at all, let alone fast.

It takes no skill to ride a bike. Or run. Or throw something, etc.

Sport in general has lost credibility with the onset of gambling. The lure of the dollar makes people do what they ordinarily would never do.....like take drugs to win
