Until they WANT to give up, they won't.
Work on his reasoning, and drill home the long term problems.
My mum was a 60 a day smoker, but quit one day, just like that.

It's all personal everyone's different, I didn't finally quit til I just couldn't stand the inconvenience anymore and the chest was starting to hurt. Bloody hard before that, almost impossible, hypnosis is probably worth a try.

Look up liptronic and products similar to them.
Some have nicotine in them some don't but look like the best option.
if your car feels safe, your not going fast enough

I gave up at 12 when I realised the cool kids weren't all that cool and that cigarettes actually tasted crap.

Here's some advice from a friend of mine who uses them -
Quote
If you buy an ECig you need to buy the German or UK manufactured ones, the others are dodgy, likewise with the nicotine, as there have been health issues with products made elsewhere. You can buy them through the site Totally Wicked, and a set up kit costs about $100 including tobacco, and the nicotine you need subsequently is very cheap (about$10 per month for a regular smoker). They create a vapour, totally safe and originally designed for cancer patients, and the nicotine itself is broken down by the body in two days. They have the best success rate for giving up smoking of anything (70% compared to 20% traditional methods), but a lot of people use them as a way of smoking safely. They're great I think, and I love mine.
