I highly recommend this little detour.

Thanks - I'll check it out.  Looks like giving up some coast though - is it better than the scenic route?

I have leave pass for first weekend but could probably switch to second weekend if needed.

Edit: second weekend now not possible.

Probably leave Friday morn and return home on the Monday but flexible. ADL - MEL via the Great Ocean Road in one day is too much.

Thought you might say that, where and how often do you intend using the 458 ?

Saw one leaving Zagames Friday, they delivered 9 cars that day.
Every car in the packed workshop was red, including mine a strange sight.
what a sight! and @ mhh - would love to see your car in melbourne
if your car feels safe, your not going fast enough

If you have the time, do a loop so you do the GOR coastal bit twice.  That part of the GOR is one of the better parts - but it's only ~35 mins, so the whole extra loop will be ~1.5 hours (at a moderately spirited pace).  But if there's traffic the GOR part can be a drag - almost no overtaking ops and some 60kph segments through towns.  So, if you're there on a weekend, take the loop.

FWIW, I usually use the loop to get to the top of the Otways (Beech Forest) rather the using GOR.  It has little traffic, has very fun tight twisties mixed with faster sweeping bends etc.  And at least 80% of it is in lush rainforest (roads can be a little damp in places, but not overly slippery).  I love it!
