In my humble opinion the "carbon tax" is simply a thinly veiled exercise in wealth tax and social re-engineering

Can someone please explain, if the idea is to reduce co2, why is the matrix for payment tethered to income bands as opposed to carbon usage.......Could it be that this is a great way for our current government to introduce a wealth tax for those earning over $150,0000.

the perks are probably worth the same if not more

Bob Hawke bought a house on the Harbour, office buildings in Melbourne and rubbed shoulders with Kerry Packer at the Casino while proclaiming "no child would be living in poverty by 1990"

He also sobbed like a girl at Sir Peter Ables funeral, and co incidently he backed Ables against the pilots when they went on strike in 1989 destroying many of them along the way and CO INCIDENTLY Hawke became a multi millionaire soon after, yes there other perks.

much the same reason that water rates are tethered to house value than solely water consumption.

If you got the coin, you pay -  simple as that.

Ahhh not sure about that buddy!  It's combination of the two.....water consumption is certainly a factor in my water bills!

This isnt about coin, this is about saving the planet according to our leaders....therefore it should be a tax for consumption not a tax for wealth....oh hang on that would make it a wealth tax!.....point made

at my place water consumption is hell low.

Regardless, if it's really about saving the planet - then why soften the blow.  If they really want to save the planet make it hurt enough that you change your carbon foot print to keep your costs low.

I'm not after a debate -  so dont draw the guns.  Australia has just a small carbon foot print compared to many other countries yet we are paying the most.

As I said earlier, if this country wants to really reduce carbon emissions the we need to go nuclear.

It's an issue worth drawing guns on whenever someone roles the "save the planet" bollocks out

If "they" -  ie, the govt, the greens etc -  point the guns in their direction!
